Got news?

January 19th, 2010

Besides my own musings and cool findings on the web, this site is partly powered by stories and news tips that you submit and here’s how.

There are three ways you can send cool news:

  • Tweet it
  • Email it
  • Post it.

Tweet it with a #hashtag

Tweet or Re-Tweet some awesomeness and just add the the hashtag “#macdavidufeed”.

Couldn’t get any simpler, right?

Email it!

News tips are great. All you have to do is…

  1. Compose an email to news@macdavidpro.com.
  2. Type “MacDavid uFeed” for the subject.
  3. Provide a description with a link to the content. (For now, do not send tips with shortened URLs. Ex. tinyurl, bit.ly and so on.)
  4. Be sure to add your first and last name into the body of the news tip so that you can be given credit where credit is due.
  5. If you have a blog, Facebook and/or Twitter account, then add those links too! Why the heck not?

What makes for a good news tip?

So you spotted something new and hot from the innernets, eh? Then you can also pass it along like this.

Example:

Found another visual rumor for the alleged iPhone 4G.
Link: http://ebygum.tumblr.com/post/341118899/mashable-iphone-4g-rumours-visualised-touch

And yes! Submit the original url! (Remember no shortened url’s please. Submit one and you submission will be ignored. Sorry. :/)

Post it!

All you have to do to post news is register over in the sidebar and you will automatically become a contributor to this site. You are free to write what you want and share it on MDP. Although, you will not be able to immediately publish your story as it is reviewed for it’s post-worthiness. But if it’s good, it’ll be posted as an article. If you don’t see your post right away, don’t fret. Either it hasn’t be reviewed yet or changes need to happen, and you’ll be notified. No sweat.

What makes for a good story?

Here is an example of a post that was composed with little-to-no complication, is straight forward and with adequate content (clear description, linked back tot he source and eye candy–a image or video).

Birth of an Avatar

I went to see Avatar with my mom and brother and it was absolutely amazing! If you haven’t seen the film yet, then what the french fry are you waiting for?! You won’t be disappointed. But before you go see it, watch this amazing screen capture video of a Peter Ammentorp Lund creating an AVATAR in Adobe Photoshop from a real photograph of himself. Really neat!

Additional guidelines for a good post

  • Until this is automatically implemented on this blog, make sure to add “Post by *your name here*” at the top of your story.
  • Always link back to the source of your story.
  • Be original in your writing
  • Try to use photos and video
  • Quote only the pertinent info, not the whole article or add a “Read more..” link pointing back to the source.
  • No offensive language or content.
  • And avoid obviously heated or taboo topics. If you’re not sure about your story, submit it and it will be looked into shortly.

And that’s basically it. Happy sharing!
