[Photo]: Japanese McDonald’s takes electronic coupons via iPhone

January 16th, 2010

Post by David Moore

Saw this on dannychoo.com from his A Week in Tokyo 50 series and think it’s pretty rad to be able to just show your coupon on your iPhone to get a discount at McDonald’s or what Danny refers to as McDees (or is that a Japanese thing all around. Folks in Montreal refer to McDonald’s as McDo [doh]).

from GigaOm: “So the Google Phone is real”

December 12th, 2009

Official Google Phone Coming in January 2010, Testing Now - Mac Rumors

Google’s decision to release a device shows that the company is worried about the fear of fragmentation of the Android ecosystem that we have often talked about. By putting its stake in the ground, the company is hoping that it doesn’t make the mistake that Microsoft made by dragging its feet in releasing Zune and ceding the market to Apple’s iPod. The iPhone, despite the issues with AT&T’s pokey 3G network, as very eloquently pointed out by Verizon in its ads, continues to sell like a monster. Google doesn’t have much time and needs to respond fast.

from GigaOm

Very interesting, to say the least.

Thats all.

Engadget: HTC HD2 UI Walkthrough

December 6th, 2009

Yesterday I was toying around with the HTC ERIS and I was impressed with the look and function, but disappointed by how laggy the UI was. This HTC device above is better apparently in terms of lag and looks to be even nicer than what I experienced with ERIS. If I weren’t an iPhone owner, I’d consider an HTC device of some kind.

That’s all.

Maemo

October 25th, 2009

Maemo

There is something strange happening at Nokia. Now, I know that they also have a new mobile device coming out called the Maemo and is due out in November, but this is turning out to be quite a launch. They’ve posted some site called the maemoproject with a paranormal activity-esque video on 10-minute loop. It’s incredibly creepy. Go see for yourself and also Google Maemo

One last thing, keep the window open because something strange happens around the 9th minute. I can’t really decipher what is being said in the video, but there is a strange repetitive buzzing and something that sounds like a man saying, “wake up”.
If you find anything new surrounding this strange project, please comment back on this post. Meanwhile, I’ll be gathering what info I can too.

Formidable iFoe or iPhoney?: Motorola Droid

October 24th, 2009

This caught my eye and I was actually blown away by the specs that I found for this mobile device due out October 28. In fact, the minisite that’s been created for it was prematurely leaked. See photos of the leaked site and read more about this here and here. (Original source PC World)

I want to point out how this video obviously takes a stab at Apple in how it is styled as an Apple ad would be, right down to the minimalist white background, myriad pro font, and reflective effect of the type. Oh and let me not forget the more immediate and most obvious ploy…”iDont..”.

Could this finally be the one device to live up to it’s own hype and 1Up Apple’s iPhone. If so, cool! If not, bummer. Why do I think this way? Because it only means something more fabulous, new and revolutionary will pop out of Apple, Inc and blow our minds. It’s only natural, and that’s tech. Let me also say that, even if it does surpass the iPhone–and it appears that it can based on the specs below–there may be a ho-hum response because the novelty on all these touchy-feely-or-other type phones is wearing thin… Or maybe that’s just me, but as the saying goes, familiarity breeds contempt.

As of yet, there is no announced price–another factor that will play a major role in the Droid’s success. Also, the company brand it comes from and it’s reputation is importantl. In my circle of friends and co-workers, Motorola ain’t liked as far as mobile phones are concerned. Just sayin’.

Make sure to visit droiddoes.com where it has a pretty snazzy site.

T-Mobile MyTouch 3G

July 8th, 2009

Today the T-Mobile MyTouch 3G was released and it’s name is quite meaningful. I visited t-mobilemytouch.com and it really pushes the fact that it’s features are easily customizable to fit who you are. You can personalize the desktop, add shortcuts to favorite websites, and and add widgets for music. Further, you can re-arrange your apps in the application drawer the way you see and for outer protection, add shells and skins as well as custom cases.

One particular application that launched with the MyTouch is called Sherpa, which learns about you the more you use the device, such as where you go, what things you like and such.

My opinion:

It’s cute, small and much better looking compared to the G1. No. Let me be blunt about the G1. I think the G1 is butt-ugly. I said it, and what!? *rolling eyes*

In general, I’m marveling at the change of mobile technology and mobile computing. I love it!!!

According to pcmag.com the MyTouch 3G will be running on Android 1.5 OS with built-in Microsoft Exchange.

That’s all.
