Mission Possible: Yes I Can!

September 28th, 2009 View Comments

Lately I have taken the time to really think and examine myself as far as where I really want to go with this blog, my new career choice (video editor/producer), and how the french fry am going to transition from my present day jobs (plural) to the one occupation I’m seeking to get work in at some point between now and a year from now. I will be graduating from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale somewhere around this time next year and I will need to have a solid portfolio of work. And at the very least, I must have a plan of action for closing one occupational chapter to open another. A change is afoot and I can either go with it or get swept away and left behind. Opportunity began knocking at my door quite a while ago and I gladly answered, but at a price no less and so I have to make this one year of learning, trial and error very worthwhile and lucrative in a down economy. Moreover, once I opened that door and stepped through I discovered that it shut behind me and there is no turning back. So, what is my plan?

I’ve outlined some goals for the next 12 months.

  • Clear as many obligations as possible in any relationships where necessary, as well as in my personal finances.
  • Fill my head with sources of inspiration and positivity in order to keep my creativity flowing and unclogged. Sometimes I get hung up on things that are really so trivial and that’s when travail grabs hold of my life and jacks me up! So cutting off excess baggage that keeps me weighed down is a must.
  • Speaking of cutting off excess baggage; people can be just that. In fact, there are some folks that presently surround me that I will drag kicking and screaming–figuratively speaking–out of my life. I love them like Jesus, but they gotta go!
  • Keep creating, keep learning. Never, never, never, never ever stop.
  • Give back. However small, just give back to those that I am able to give to. I believe that with growth we have an obligation to share the wealth of our talents and the successes thereof with those in need around us. And not just monetary wealth, but information, wisdom, encouragement and intercession for those that need and request it.
  • Continue being myself, unapologetically. I’ve been told by people, children to adults, that I’m weird, crazy, silly, childish (in the playful sense of the word), pensive, picky, stubborn, argumentative, skinny, fussy, different, walk to the beat of drum I only hear, quiet, kind, conservative, stuck up, evil, selfish, considerate, patient, diligent, overly cautious, cold, calculating etc and not all in that order. And my answer to this is that everyone is entitled to their own opinions. So, thanks, but I have a solid grasp on who I am.
  • Set my mind squarely on my goals and not allow myself to be distracted by anything–neither left nor right, but straight forward. Onward, ever upward, forward and never backward. ;) PMA
  • I will collaborate with other like-minded people; artistic-minded people that seek the same things I seek so that we can exchange knowledge and grow from each other.
  • And, to sort of corroborate the previous point, I seek a mentor who understands my situation and where I want to go with my life, and will help guide me along. And sure enough and realistically speaking, the moment I set my mind on success, evil and nasty people will start coming out of the wood work. But I got on my armor and I’m ready; not to fight them, but the influences that drive them to be so wicked to those who are trying to make positive change in their lives.

In closing, I just wanted to get some stuff off my chest that frankly had me about ready to burst. So, my present mantra is that this is not mission impossible, but mission possible. Yes I can!

How about you? How are you planning to over come your Goliath and reap your calling?

A Major Change

A little over a week ago I made a big move, in my opinion, to change my major from web design to video production. As some of you may already know, I attend the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and I’ve been enjoying myself studying there thus far. But I will confess that I wasn’t sure about my first choice of major to begin with. In fact, I had two desires, web design or video production. I wasn’t sure which one I wanted the most, but I set my mind on web design.

So, here I am a little over a year later and through one I discovered my passion was always for the other. I took one video editing class in accordance with my first degree program in 2008, and I couldn’t get enough. So the deeper I got into it the more I realized that I like video editing. There is no explanation outside of what I’ve said so far, but I just love working with video. So there you have it. If have any questions of me about it, I’d be more than happy to oblige, especially on what I’ve learned and taught myself so far.

I am working on some projects as we speak outside of school and I’m excited to be doing them. I won’t speak specifically about them in detail outside of what I’ve posted on my “about” page of this blog, but they’re going well.

So far I’ve gone through my first week of classes and I am truly having a blast. Currently, I’m taking Scriptwriting, Introduction to Video Production, and Fundamentals of Video Editing. (for the latter, we’re using Avid and Final Cut Pro).

Don’t want to draw this out, but I did want to share this bit of news.

Curious. Have you ever had a change of passion about what it is you want to do for a career at some point in your life?

David, where are you?

I took a long, long break without my choosing. I don’t know, my body and my mind just said, “I’m tired of the internet! Time for a break!!” So now I’m just really getting back into the swing of things and plan to blog some more.

I have come to realize that blogging is almost like a full-time job, but I hate thinking of it that way. So what I began to notice was that dealing with macdavidpro.com was becoming job-like and that’s when I know I need to walk away from it, then come back later. Make sense?

But like I said, I’m good now and feel like jumping back into the innernets. :)

That’s all!
